CLASSIFICATION:             Part-time, Hourly (Third shift, 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

8-16 hours per week, 52 weeks per year) 

REPORTS TO:                      Director of Campus Safety

The Switchboard Operator serves the guests, faculty and staff, and students of Cornerstone University through means of prompt and courteous service, and to work in conjunction with Campus Safety officers regarding all service calls, incident responses, and other related matters.


Other duties may be assigned.

  • Answers all incoming calls to the University, and direct all calls to their appropriate destination.
  • Dispatches Campus Safety officers to service calls and incidents including emergencies that involve strategic 9-1-1 contacts and interactions, and logs all incidents in the department ‘incident log book’.
  • Monitors campus fire alarm, door alarm, and security camera systems and issues appropriate responses.
  • Ensures that University vehicles are checked out and returned according to policy and procedure.
  • Documents, stores and manages all lost and found items and reports.
  • Notifies Campus Services of all maintenance problems and/or emergencies such as a power outage.
  • Specifically selected and specifically trained operators issue photo ID cards and relative permissions.
  • Is available and able to work a schedule that includes a variety of shifts and rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays and other special assignments.


  • High School Diploma
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work under stressful circumstances, and an ability to multitask
  • Hard working, and a positive attitude
