Cornerstone University is a theologically conservative university in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We invite applications for a part-time (up to .45 FTE) affiliate faculty (1-year commitment) position in its growing Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) program. Salary commensurate with education and experience. Similar position(s) for adjunct faculty for one or more courses per semester may also be available upon request.

Qualifications

Requirements include a master’s degree or higher in mechanical or civil engineering or a related field with relevant teaching and/or work experience. The successful candidate will support the BSE program through effective instruction of students using project-based learning. The successful candidate will possess a master’s degree (Ph.D. and PE certification preferred), give evidence of scholarly potential, and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching.

Courses needed include:

Drafting: This course will provide students with the principles of drafting used by engineers through a hands-on learning environment. Topics should include drawing interpretation, visualization, construction, sectioning, and mechanical drawings.

Introduction to CAD: This course will introduce students to the theory and applications of Computer Aided Design (CAD). Topics should include CAD/CAM systems, geometric modeling, tool path generation, integration of CAD/CAM with the production machine, and additive manufacturing.

Dynamics: This course provides students with a rigorous study of motion and the relationship between force, mass, and acceleration for particles and rigid bodies. This course should include concepts such as work, energy, impulse, and momentum.

Machine Design: This course provides students with a rigorous study of shear and bending stresses in beams, deflections, buckling of columns, statically indeterminate beams, combined loading, static failure, and fatigue failure theories.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will serve as a part-time affiliate professor in Cornerstone’s engineering program instructing on-campus courses. Other responsibilities include management of engineering lab, scholarly engagement in the candidate’s specialization area, course and program assessment, and other departmental duties as assigned.
