JOB TITLE: Assistant Cross Country and Track & Field Coach - Graduate Assistant
CLASSIFICATION: 12-month, Part-time
REPORTS TO: Head Coach of Cross Country and Track & Field and Athletic Director
DEPARTMENT: Athletics
LOCATION: Bernice Hansen Athletic Center - Grand Rapids, MI
SUMMARY: The position of Graduate Assistant Coach reports to the head coach of Cross Country and Track & Field and is responsible for assisting in some areas of the program(s). Typical duties may include but are not limited to coaching and recruiting student-athletes, practice planning, monitoring student academic progress and time commitments, camp development, coordinating community engagement opportunities, game/meet management and travel responsibilities, practice scheduling and supervising, and other related duties as assigned.
COMPENSATION: Full tuition benefits, not including fees and books. General stipend offered.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administrative duties in certain aspects of program
- Assist with some phases of competitive NAIA compliant recruiting
- Help execute planned practices
- Develop (over time) and execute practice plans in assigned event group(s)
- Help record and report meet progress and statistics with SID and staff
- Assist with the promotion and direction of camps, fundraising, and other program development activities
- Assist in necessary scheduling of team travel
a) Ordering of meals
b) Reserving of lodging
c) Scheduling of busses and vans for transportation
- Take part and assist in the spiritual growth of program(s)
- Perform other duties as assigned
- 18 hours/week maximum, up to 936 hours/year maximum
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Acceptance into a Cornerstone University Master’s Degree program
- Marketing and Social Media experience preferred
- Communications and/or Journalism experience preferred
- Demonstrated professional organizational and communication skills
- Demonstrated capacity for personal leadership and conflict resolution
- Proven capacity for self-motivation to meet deadlines and to thrive in high-pressure environments
- Ability to maintain a flexible schedule that allows for attendance at practice and meets, often in the evenings and on weekends
- Love of college athletics
- Personal relationship with Jesus Christ and active Christian commitment
- A theology that supports the values and mission of Cornerstone University, as evidenced by an ability to affirm and sign the university’s doctrinal statement, “The Cornerstone Confession”
