Director of Athletics
REPORTS TO: Associate Vice President of Student Experience DEPARTMENT: Athletics SUMMARY The Director of Athletics position is a 12-month appointment reporting to the Office of Spiritual Formation and Christian Community. The AD will be responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, supervising, leading, and evaluating campus-wide all aspects of the athletics program at Cornerstone University. The ideal candidate may be a current coach of a sport supported at Cornerstone University and who is able to assume these additional duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES · Provide Christ-centered leadership for the planning and implementation of programs in the athletics department ensuring all programs reflect the University's mission and values. · Hire, supervise, and evaluate professional staff within the athletics department · Implement a plan for Christian worldview and leadership development as well as general professional development of all athletics department personnel · Actively build relationships with various regional and campus constituencies · Ensure service and learning opportunities for student-athletes and coaches such as missions and ministry opportunities · Provide consistent reports regarding compliance, academics, fundraising, player eligibility, and other key metrics · Ensure the University’s compliance with all WHAC conference and NAIA regulations · Collaborate with Advancement and Alumni Relations to develop and execute a strategic fundraising plan for the Athletic Department, including donor engagement at events and cultivating meaningful interactions to support departmental growth · Implement the Golden Eagle Club to attract and retain members · Oversee the fiscal responsibility of athletics department budgets providing oversight of athletic expenditures and coordination of strategic resource development · Collaborate on student-athlete academic success and eligibility tracking. · Represent or designate a representative for athletics in various committees and utilize Student Athlete Leadership Team for student voice · Participate in and represent Cornerstone at appropriate Conference (WHAC) and National (NAIA) activities · Implement proper risk management practices for all athletic activities, including health and safety protocols, emergency preparedness, and insurance compliance · Collaborate with student conduct on conduct investigations and sanctions per the Student Handbook and Student Athlete Handbook · Oversee the Golden Eagle summer athletics camps program · Oversee and implement Champions of Character · Oversee Assistant Athletic Director responsible for athletics facilities and external operations. · Oversee the Assistant Athletic Director responsible for business operations. · Oversee the recruitment and support of Graduate Assistants for athletic teams. · Oversee athletic personnel responsible for sports information and high-quality game day operations · Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS · Master’s degree preferred · Demonstrated experience and expertise in athletics administration · Demonstrated successful building strong relationships with stakeholders · Demonstrated understanding of the student athlete experience in higher education ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: These core commitments convey who we are, what we believe and how we live and work together in community.
